What YOU can do to eliminate GAS CHAMBERS in ALABAMA.

TERRIFIED DOGS BEING FORCED INTO METAL CAGE THAT IS SLID INTO THE GAS CHAMBER BOX WHERE THEIR LUNGS WILL BE BURNED UNTIL THEY CANNOT CRY FOR MERCY ANYMORE, AND THEIR LAST GASP FOR LIFE IS EXHAUSTED. CAN WE ALLOW OUR LAWMAKERS AND ANIMAL CONTROL SYSTEM TO EXTERMINATE BEAUTIFUL LOYAL DOGS IN THIS MANNER BECAUSE IRRESPONSIBLE AND CRUEL OWNERS (FELLOW CITIZENS OF ALABAMA) DISPOSED OF THEIR PET LIKE TRASH? If not you, if not me, WHO will be the voice for the victims of an uncaring society?

WHAT YOU CAN DO:
If you live in a city/county in Alabama that still allows gas chamber euthanasia, or if you live in the state of Alabama and want to eliminate the use of gas chambers throughout the state, you can do the following:

•Contact your local shelter to determine its euthanasia practice. If the shelter uses gas, politely ask the shelter director and your county commissioners to transition to EBI.
•Start a petition to send to your county commissioners, calling for your local shelter to transition to EBI.
•Involve the local media to drum up additional community support for a transition.
•Share American Humane’s resources with the shelter, and let shelter management know that American Humane is available as a resource in transitioning to EBI.

•Contact your state legislators -- particularly if you are in a county that uses the gas chamber -- and gauge their interest in sponsoring a gas chamber ban bill. Contact American Humane’s Office of Public Policy at publicpolicy@americanhumane.org if you need assistance.

  1. Cannot believe Alabama citizens and gov leaders would allow such cruelty and pain to be inflicted on animals who are tossed into public animal pounds - AL needs an agency with people who actually CARE abt animals to oversee and protect these poor dogs and cats.

  2. Well it is true we have many gas chambers in this state. Some are well unknown too and they do other treable things to get rid of the dogs and cats.
Its all about the greed of money for the ones who have these killing machines.
And we need help for this state to show these greedy people who run the towns and cities they can do this a better way.

  3. This has got to be stopped - animals discarded by owners need a safe shelter.

  4. This is absolutely horrible! It makes me angry! People that allow this obviously do not care about animals, and therefore should not be allowed to make decisions concerning their welfare. Also, the reason all of these animals are in shelters in the first place is human error.

  5. Thanks for folks like Sandra, who educate the public on this horrific practice. Although I am actively involved in animal welfare, I had no idea that this exists in eight "shelters" Alabama that we know of until she enlightened me. The only way to stop the evil is to be diligent in contacting law makers, especially in the areas that engage in this practice. Votes do count, and they want to please their constituents in order to gain reelection - not necessarily to do the right thing. Write editorials to your newspapers, call or email your county commissions and legislature, and be diligent. We must be the voices for these innocents who exist because of the irresponsibility of humans.

  6. Heart breaking!! Thank you for standing strong in your plight to stop this insanity and help those who cannot speak for themselves. As a citizen of Alabama it's time for me to research shelters and do my part because there is nothing humane about gassing animals! If you know of any in my area, please forward. Thank you!

  10. i cannot fathom or wrap my brain around why this is still being allowed to happen in this day and age!!I also cannot believe that the citizens of Alabama are as uncaring and callously cruel as this!WE, the animal lovers and protectors, and rescuers need to barrage the Representatives with pictures, proof ,and anything else that will help to end this abomination!!!!!The media needs to be contacted so that the citizens of Alabama will know what is going on and expose this to the animal lovers around the world!!!!
